TRA, when read in reverse, suggests the word ART.
The aRT studio, led by Robert Traboscia, works in the architectural edges, finding the links and intersections between different dimensions, reinterpreting the common language across ART and ARCHITECTURE.
Robert Traboscia ’s passion for the “active” side of architecture, for determining how things go together and his knowledge of craft, informs both his work at the studio and his work as an Artist. The clarity of the architectural diagrams and of the architectural compositions echoes the Robert Traboscia’s minimal art gestures.
Robert Traboscia’s enthusiastic interest in dynamic color and gestural art and sculptural collages, has resulted in a clear and innovative approach, fusing visionary, artistic and architectural experimentation in the fluidity of the design process. Working in the art world has become critical to his practice.
Robert graduated from the Parsons School of Design, where he later also taught, with a degree in Environmental Design, a multidisciplinary program whose approach still informs his work and the studio’s philosophy, he is co-founder of TRA studio.

PANDEMIC SMALLS
Robert searches for and transforms humble materials and scraps into multilayered and multidimensional collages. The small objects go though a process of “Transubstantiation”: the transformation of something humble and found into something new, precious and surprising, while maintaining the original appearance of the found objects.
The restraint that informs the collages, where what is left out is as important as what goes in, is highlighted by the limitations inherent to the frames that contain them, similarly to the constraints that context imposes on architecture.
The frames have been handcrafted in Italy, from salvaged antique beams, by Cornici Studio, a shop led by another Artist, Sergio Colussa.
Robert narrates the series himself.
ALUMINUM LINES
The artist’s and the designer’s shared aesthetic can be seen in all of Robert’s pieces and projects, where beauty and uniqueness is found in humble, ordinary, materials
This series was inspired by the architectural materials used in several of TRA’s projects, since bent aluminum has been used in different forms both in interiors and in many of the building facades designed by the studio. In turn the aluminum lines hanging in the office inspired the architecture, the alternating quoins of Loft25 are the exact replica of these pieces.
MDF LINES
Similarly the use of recycled materials and particularly of MDF panels in the interior projects influenced the choice of the backup forthe MDF lines series.
The natural finish of the support material is left visible, becoming part of the composition and adding a dimension of warmth to the minimal pours.
DOTS
Form the catalogue of Robert Traboscia’s show, Galleria Colussa, Udine
“An internal poetry composed of few syllables, in which every phonetic sound assumes the expressive significance that is lost in daily use. This is the meaning of Robert Traboscia's work, who in a few moments when pouring paint on the panel surface summarizes his continuous research and technical experience. Both concentrated within the minimal pour but substantial thickness of color which adheres to the support with fluid softness. The color shapes itself in non-designed forms which add up to build the dynamics of the artist's internal history. Different from art of loud and ample gestures, the artist's inspiration comes from within the silence of an instant to become concrete expression like the intimate immediacy of a breath. Similar to any poetry it opens a world where there is more than one possible reading, surprising even itself.”

PRINTS
Some of the dots paintings have been translated into digital prints on canvas, which Robert often repeated and assembled within a single frame, a gesture that inspired him to explore the photographic collages of the City Grid series.
The iPhone images, enlarged and repeated, are completed transformed into large murals.
CITY GRID
Like for most of us, for Robert, the iphone becomes the way to look the world. The tiled compositions record the movements of our vision and in doing so become a reinterpretation and a comment on reality.
The compositions, through the orchestrated rythm of the repetitions, as in other art and design work by Robert Traboscia, reinterpret the ordinary, finding beauty and delightful surprise.
