On a fall day, it is so wonderful to see the luminous photos of our smallest restoration to date: the transformation a humble fishing cabin to contemporary retreat. Thank you https://88designbox.com/ for featuring it.

Caterina presents at the AIA CFA

Please join Caterina Roiatti, representing the AIANY Historic Buildings Committee, for an exploration of recent projects in historic districts that include both a restorative component and a new building. The discussion will highlight the tension between the opportunities and limitations offered by these types of sites. Contrast, tension, and complexity are essential to the making of the urban fabric of cities and greatly contribute to the well-being of their inhabitants. The case studies, which will be presented by the design architects, all employ the massing strategies of cantilevers, encroachments, or other interlocking mechanisms between the new and the historic building.

The projects to be presented include 111 West 57th Street and The Brooklyn Tower by SHoP Architects, 67 Greenwich Street and 130 Felix Street by FXCollaborative, 39 West 23rd Street and the Terminal Warehouse by CookFox, and 251-253 Fifth Avenue by TRA studio architecture.

Thank you to the AIA Center for Architecture and Linda G. Miller for featuring 128 East 28 Street in IN THE NEWS https://www.aiany.org/news/in-the-news-august-16-2023/
"The façade’s contemporary folded aluminum pilasters reference—and are designed to complement—the masonry pillars prevalent on the historic structures on nearby Park Avenue South. The building’s airtight glass curtain wall is symbiotic with the tall towers that are rising in the area, and its angled planes work to reflect the sky and street while amplifying views on the narrow side street. “
